Uses

Inspired by uses this.

Software

I use macOS and Linux (Ubuntu) daily (slowly making my way to Arch Linux). I prefer using the terminal where possible. My current setup consists of Ghostty for terminal emulation, tmux for terminal multiplexing, Helix for text editing, fish for command line shell, and Jujutsu for version control — all using the Catppuccin color scheme ☕️. I enjoy this setupʼs ease-of-use, simple defaults, and portability.

I try to stick to FOSS where possible. I use ledger-cli for budgeting and accounting, mutt (and Thunderbird) for plain text emailing, Firefox (with uBlock Origin extension) for web browsing, and LibreOffice for documents and spreadsheets.

I run Pi-hole to block ads at the network-level and Tailscale to access the home network remotely (which allows me to block ads while mobile).

Hardware

Alas, I love Appleʼs hardware, which makes switching to Linux full-time hard. I use a 2023 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip and 18 GB of RAM as my daily driver. The 16 inches come in handy when Iʼm mobile, and the compute is more than enough for programming and light gaming.

I recently built a PC, which I am using more often. I was eyeing a Framework desktop but figured I could get more compute per dollar if I built the PC myself. I use a 32-inch LG UltraFine display, Moonlander keyboard, and Logitech MX Master 3S wireless mouse (and more recently, a wired mouse for the desktop). The CalDigit TS3 Plus Thunderbold 3 Dock ties together my work and personal laptops (albeit only one laptop can be connected at a time).

I use UniFi for all my networking gear and a Synology DS423+ for backups and media storage. My Raspberry Pi 4 acts as an ad blocker for the network.

For my phone, I use the iPhone 16e as an experiment in reducing my screen time. While it does the trick, I miss the 5x optical zoom of the Pro camera. To my shame, I will probably upgrade to the next Pro.
